A rally will be held June 12, 1982 in New York in support of the Second United Nations Special, Session on Disarmament. The purpose of the rally is to freeze and reverse the nuclear arms race and redirect funds from the military budget to meet human needs. The June 26 Women's Open House will feature music by Karen Citino and friends. Karen played with the "Last Set Band" at the What She Wants benefit in March and also performs by herself. The Women's Open House is a coffeehouse held on the 4th Saturday of each month at 2728 Lancashire (off Coventry near Mayfield). We are open from 8 p.m. to midnight with music beginning at 9 p.m. Coffee, teas, juice and snacks are available, and a $1.50 donation is asked at the door. The Velamints Pro Tennis Classic, a women's pro tennis tournament to be held in Cleveland this summer, features a prize money purse of $10,000 and will include internationally-ranked players from around the world. A special feature of the event will be a pro-amateur competition on Sunday. June 27, 1982. All the ticket sale proceeds from the event, which will include a wine and cheese party following play, will benefit WomenSpace. People are needed prior to the tournament to help pull together all organizational details, take tickets, and make sure things run smoothly. The tournament committee also hopes to be able to house as many players as possible at people's homes, rather than a hotel. Hard Hatted Women is a support and information-sharing group for women working in or actively seeking non-traditional blue-collar jobs. Not all these jobs are actually "hard-hatted" or blue collar, but all are nonmanagerial. Group members work in heavy industrial, manual and skilled technical jobs that traditionally have been held by men. The next meeting will be a picnic on Sunday, June 27, 1982, at Mentor Headlands Park at 2:00 p.m. Bring your family and a potluck dish. There will be games for children. On July 1, 1982, you can spend an evening with Josephine Irwin, one of the original founders of WomenSpace, at Wiley Jr. High School, Room 204, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. In 1914, Irwin rode down Euclid Avenue on a white horse, leading 2,000 suffragists in a parade. Now, at age 92, she is still crusading for women's rights and international peace and freedom. For information, call Wiley Jr. High School. Fee is $10.

The National Women's Conference Committee has planned a national day of celebration July 1, 1982. Its purpose is to begin the implementation of the Equal Rights Amendment "whether or not it is ratified". One-hour events will be held at noon on the steps of county courthouses, city halls, State Capitols and the National Capitol in Washington, D.C. Task forces are being formed on education, employment, health, family law, childcare, violence and international issues.
